Creativity is the Best Ingredient for any Music Producer
The fact that music is like a heart beat in our lives cannot be refuted owing to the fact that music is loved and appeal to a very large population of people across the world. You will meet revelers in clubs who go to enjoy music or dance their asses off for weight loss or even after a busy day at work or during their weekend.
There are those you will meet in the subways donning their headphones and the hum to the music playing as they wait for the train or bus. There are multiple times that we work and go on doing our daily chores as we listen to some sweet music in the background – actually as I type this article I’m listening to ‘The Cranberries’ doing what they love most.
As you listen to that favorite track, or a recently released song, and your life doesn’t have to revolve around music for you to realize this, there may be a time – maybe a multiple times – that you felt that a certain song could have been somehow improved to make it more appealing. As you hum to the tune of your favorite track, you may have felt that the beats if made lighter could have more impact that the way it was originally produced.
If you have ever had such reservations, then welcome to the producers world. There are reasons why some tracked are remixed and produced differently, because it is by doing so that the aesthetics of the tracks could be improved. I’m a producer and have been in the industry for three years now. I loved music since I was a small girl and there are several occasions that I felt that some song needed to be retouched to produce a more powerful effect. I usually shared my views with my friends at school and on online music forums and that is where my dream of becoming a music producer emanated from.
I didn’t start as a producer though. I started out as a virtual DJ. I had a the music mixing software installed on my PC and from the platform, I used to mix music of different genres to produce effects that I felt were desirable and more appealing to the human ears. With time I became so good at this that I would be the one of the decks whenever there were functions our school.
Extensive Knowledge is the Secret Key to Make Necessary Improvements
My desire to prove that I was a pro made me to continue learning and practicing more and that bettered my skills. I ensured that I listened to all genres of music and learnt how to add different effects to make them sound more beautifully.
The reason of getting deep to different genres was to appraise myself with the different styles needed to improve the songs that I mixed. I also wanted to be able to know the opportune moment when the music has climaxed and I needed to play a different track which had to rhyme well with the previous track – the beats and the sonic.
I also ensured that I learnt different music instruments like the piano and guitar. I owe my college great appreciation because I was able to learn all this for free and I wasn’t even pursuing a music course. Moreover, I learnt about the different tempo – bass soprano and all that. Extensive knowledge will ensure your success. Apart from learning, I kept practicing over and over again. I still do.
Networking made me realize the Potential of the Industry
By the time I was on my final year in college, there was need to know how to become a real DJ. I decided to join some DJing classes so that I could use the turntable. It wasn’t much of a hassle and the classes never took me forever to muster because I had an upper hand.
Now it was time to venture out in the world. It was time to mingle with the mighty and show them my skills. That when I started networking. I started selling myself off. Soon I was hovering from one nightclub to the other and most of those who I worked for, although it was mostly temporary loved my work. They loved my taste of music as well my ability to mix different genres without mush hassle.
It was during one of my many adventures that I met a local artiste who suggested that my taste of music was beyond being behind the decks. She felt that I could make a good producer. She went ahead to introduce me to her manager who was generous enough to break it down to me the benefits of becoming a producer.
I took all that practically the following year when I launched my own recording and producing label. This was the best decision I made because I usually make 10 times or more each month that I was initially making and I’m still growing.
