Re-engineer Your Approach to Become a Popular Musician
Typically, it seems as if your music producer is the key marketer to your songs. What I’m trying to say is that a good production house can easily ensure success of your music career. It is a known fact that most radio stations favor some production labels that they feel are strong and their music ‘must’ be something worthy the listeners’ ears. They may be prejudiced about this, but there is a clear line which puts prestigious producers above others because they work to refine the music of their artistes to perfection and thus why they usually produce big hit.
They same can be said to music journalists, bloggers and critics all whom seem to favor big and known production houses. As much as these prestigious record labels may have advanced technologies, more experience and skills to refine music for their clients doesn’t mean that other artistes still can’t shine.
I know of many artistes that get discouraged because they are locked out of these production houses because of the big budget out there. To worsen matters, when they try recording with cheaper producers, their music may never get to the limelight and mot much can be advanced in their music careers because they feel disoriented by the low sale of their albums as well as little attendance in their gigs. It shouldn’t be that way. You need to go out there and market your music yourself.
When I started out in my music career, I also felt these hindrances. I had great vocal and could right good songs, but I couldn’t get anyone good to help me out record my music. Acting on a low budget and being a person who couldn’t easily get noticed – I’m not good at making friends – I had a hard time figuring what to do.
Don’t Prepare for Rejection; Prepare to Counter-Rejection
I recorded my first album at home-based studio which I rented. It was at this studio that I too produced that very first album. Having my album out, I decided it was time to show the industry leaders that I wasn’t just an underground artiste. I actually hate being underground. I decided that it was time to get out and become know.
I knew that I wasn’t that social and my way of addressing things needed to change. The first thing that I did was research on the best ways to market my music. Having not spent heavily in the production, I had a few resources to help me travel and get myself known.
I went form town to town, club to club and to major radio stations to have my music promoted. I would give free copies of my CD to DJ and radio presenters as well as schedule interviews with radio presenters.
Not many liked me but the few who did, gave me the opportunity to market myself. I made sure that word was out to the listeners of my new album and I had some copies given to some listeners on several contest that I was able to organize during the brief time that I had to market my music. This seemed to work because soon I was getting some airplay, but the sale were incredibly low.
Use the Power of Social Media and Online Groups
Noticing that not much was working for me, I decided to market my music online. That when I unleashed the dragon. I realized that the various social media platforms online had the power to make my music known and heard. I ensured that I uploaded my music to the different music directories out these as well as getting people to know about me in the various platforms out there. I would share with them some engaging content and would at time give copies of my album free.
Within no time I had a great following. This made me work on my next album and by the time it was launched, I had a great following all of whom wanted to get my music. There are those who made several requests to their favorite radio stations to have my music playing and within no time, word about me was out there.
Not only was I enjoying massive airplay, but even the big production houses stand by me and most would be ready to strike a deal to record my music. The key is never give up but learn about what is working.
